Oliver Luck, West Virginia’s director of athletics, released a statement this week that pledges continued support for football coach Dana Holgorsen but demands improvement in 2014.
Luck wrote, “I strongly believe in our coaching staff, including the work that our strength and conditioning staff is doing. In my opinion, continuity is the key ingredient that will bring our football program back to the high level that Mountaineer fans expect. We had plenty of challenges this season; nonetheless, we should not and will not use those as excuses for our performance. We simply must get better.”
West Virginia just completed a 4-8 season that included saddling Oklahoma State with its only loss but also six losses in the Mountaineers’ final seven games.
West Virginia has gone 21-17 in three seasons under Holgorsen but is 6-12 in two seasons against Big 12 competition.
