WEXFORD, Pa. – After posting a pair of double-doubles in two wins last week, Bethany College junior British Alexander (Dayton, Ohio/Trotwood Madison) has been selected as the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 31.
The 6-6 center averaged 13.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 steals to help propel the Bison (14-5, 7-2) to victories at Waynesburg and over Geneva. In the 73-52 triumph at Waynesburg, he scored 11 points and hauled down a season-high 14 rebounds, including eight offensive to help BC tally 21 second-chance points, as Bethany won their 18th consecutive game over the Yellow Jackets.
Against Geneva on Saturday, Alexander went 7-for-11 from the floor and notched his fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 boards in a 75-63 victory. He also rejected four shots, all in the first half, to set the tone defensively, as the Bison held the Golden Tornadoes, who were leading the PAC in scoring (79.7) coming into the game, to their second-lowest point total of the year.
For the season, Alexander is ranked 11th in the PAC in scoring (13.2), third in rebounding (7.7), seventh in field goal percentage (50.8), ninth in steals (1.58) and second in blocked shots (1.74). His 33 total blocks so far this year is already tied for the fourth-most at Bethany since the 1982-83 campaign with six regular season games to play.
“This is a well deserved honor for British, who has really come on recently,” said Bethany head coach Andrew Sachs. “He has done it on both ends of the floor. His presence inside has helped us on the defensive end and his offensive game has steadily improved through the season. Hopefully he can continue to get better as we go through the heart of our schedule.”
A physical education major, British is the son of David Alexander and Marian Grigsby of Dayton, Ohio.
