Pirates put together a decent number of hits tonight, but got very little in run production out of their offense. The Pirates racked up a total of seven hits, but was only able to net a single run.
The Pirates lone run came from a fifth inning solo homer by Ryan Doumit.
Doumit who finished 2 for 3 was nearly the hero again in the seventh putting men second and third. But despite have only one out they could not score either runner to close in on the lead.
Meanwhile the Pirate’s pitching was average at best. Starter Jeff Karstens gave up seven hits and three runs, two of which were earned in his six innings of pitching.
The big difference in that game was the pair of homeruns Karstens give up to Alfonso Soriano. Both solo shots in the fourth and sixth innings to give the Cubs a two run advantage over the Bucs and the eventual win.
Pirates have so far split the series with the Cubs and will be focused on the series deciding game tomorrow afternoon.
