WHEELING – Wheeling Nailers forward Nick Petersen has been named the Reebok Hockey ECHL Rookie of the Month for January.
The honor is the third won by Petersen this week, as he was named the Sher-Wood Player of the Week on Tuesday, and the AMI Graphics Plus Performer of the Month on Wednesday.
Petersen, 21, finished the month scoring 10 goals and adding 16 assists for a total of 26 points, while going a +16 in 13 games in January.
Petersen’s efforts help lead the Nailers to a 10-2-1 record during the month. He also registered a point in 12 of the 13 games played during January, while compiling two five-point nights (Jan. 22 at Trenton & Jan 29 vs. Trenton).
The Wakefield, Quebec, native leads ECHL rookies with 57 points and recently had his 12-game point scoring streak snapped this past Wednesday at Reading.
A fourth round selection of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009, Petersen spent the previous three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with Shawinigan and Saint John scoring 198 points (87g-111a) in 178 games.
