Dana Holgorsen (WVU) and Doug Marrone (Syracuse) completed the New Era Pinstripe Bowl pre-bowl festivities with the coaches’ press conference this afternoon. It was the final event in the week-long schedule that both teams went through since arriving in the Big Apple on Christmas night.
Both coaches know the — that can go with a bowl week.
Holgorsen – “It’s been a great vacation but at the end of the week we need to buckle down and play a game”
“75% of our kids haven’t been here, they thought this was the greatest thing ever. Tavon, on the other hand, Walked 3 blocks, turned around, and said this wasn’t for me and walked back into the hotel room for a couple days”
Marrone – “It’s hard to enjoy the week [as a coach] because we are preparing for a game. We’re treating this as a business trip”
On preparation
Holgorsen – “Both teams know each other pretty well so we didn’t have to prepare as much”
Marrone – “Both teams are getting ready to play a very competitive football game”
On the possible snow conditions (Calling for 1-3 Inches starting in the morning and continuing during the game)
Holgorsen –– “Our guys are used to the weather. The ones going to the NFL will be playing in this for 2 months”
Marrone – “That’s what makes football fun, the only time games get cancelled is when there’s lightning”
On weather conditions affecting practice during the week
Holgorsen –“We prepped before we left because we knew the conditions would be bad”
Kickoff for the New Era Pinstripe Bowl will be at 3:15 and will be televised nationally on ESPN
