PITTSBURGH — After deciding to part ways with their top two athletics trainers this past week, the Pittsburgh Pirates announced on Thursday that they have hired Todd Tomczyk as the team’s Head Athletic Trainer.
Tomczyk, 35, spent the last five seasons as an assistant athletic trainer for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Prior to joining the Dodgers, he spent eight years in the Cleveland organization working as the athletic trainer for Triple-A Buffalo (2005-06), Double-A Akron (2003-04), Class-A Columbus (2000-01) and Class-A Burlington (1999). Tomczyk also served as Cleveland’s minor league rehabilitation coordinator for two seasons (2001-02).
Tomczyk is a Bethel Park native and a 1994 graduate of Seton-La Salle High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sports medicine from Duquesne University and his master’s degree in exercise science from California University of Pennsylvania. In addition, Todd is a certified strength and conditioning specialist.
