The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced their 2012 Spring Training schedule and ticket pricing for games at McKechnie Field in Bradenton, Florida.
McKechnie Field has been the southern home of the Pirates since 1969. The 29-game Florida schedule consists of 15 home games and will also feature an intrasquad “Black and Gold” game on Friday, March 2nd.
The Pirates will kick off their 2012 Grapefruit League season against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday, March 3 in Dunedin. The Pirates will then host the Blue Jays the following day in their Home Opener at McKechnie Field on Sunday, March 4 at 1:05 p.m.
The season will conclude on April 1 against Toronto in Dunedin. The Pirates will then travel to Philadelphia for two exhibition games against the Phillies on April 2-3 before the 2012 Major League Season begins on April 5th.
Some highlights at McKechnie Field this season include: One game against the American League East Champion New York Yankees (March 6), Boston Red Sox (March 21) and American League Central Champion Detroit Tigers (March 23). The Bucs will also face the National League East Champion Philadelphia Phillies (March 12, 16) and the American League Wild Card Champion Tampa Bay Rays (March 17, 22, 30).
