PITTSBURGH — Pirates prospects right-hander Ryan Beckman and left-hander Rinku Singh were named to the ‘Team World’ at the Australian Baseball League All-Star Game.
Team Australia will take on Team World in Perth on December 21st at 1:00 PM ET. The 2011 All-Star Game is expected to be one of the largest ever for a baseball game held in Australia, with the match to be broadcast live nationally on Fox Sports and replayed to over 20 Asian countries through the Australia Network and in the United States through the MLB Network.
Singh, 23, has appeared in four games for the Adelaide Bite where he’s tossed 6.2 scoreless innings. Rinku has allowed just one hit with one walk and five strikeouts. Combined with the Gulf Coast League, State College and Low-A West Virginia in 2011, Rinku posted a 2.45 ERA over 40.1 innings with 11 walks and 32 strikeouts. Rinku was the first-Indian born pitcher to win a professional game in the United States. He was drafted by Pittsburgh as a non-drafted free agent in 2008.
Beckman, 21, has appeared in eight games for the Adelaide Bite where he’s allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits over 11.2 innings. Beckman has walked one while striking out 12. Beckman posted a 2.79 ERA over 46 appearences combined with Low-A West Virginia and High-A Bradenton in 2011. Over 58.0 innings in relief, Beckman walked 18 with 49 strikeouts and picked up 13 saves. He was drafted by Pittsburgh in the 18th round of the 2009 draft.
