Former Florida coach Urban Meyer’s name became one of the prominent names being discussed as a possible replacement since coach Jim Tressel’s resignation.
Meyer who is currently working with ESPN, was quoted earlier in the season saying:
“I am committed to ESPN and will not pursue any coaching opportunities this fall,” Meyer said. “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the people at ESPN this spring and remain very excited about my role with the network this fall.
“Jim Tressel has been a respected friend and colleague for a long time. I wish Jim and his family the very best now and in the future.”
Meyer’s qualifier of “this fall” is noteworthy as Ohio State has made it clear that the recruitment of a new coach will not begin until after the 2011-12 season, which is quickly approaching.
Rumors are saying that a deal is already in place, and that Meyer has accepted the position. Contract details are being worked out.
