Rushel Shell’s destination is finally set for the upcoming football season. The former five-star prospect and Pittsburgh Panther running back announced today that he will officially come to West Virginia.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review were the first to break the news about a half hour before Shell himself announced his decision on ESPN’s College Football Live. Shell, the leading rusher in Pennsylvania high school history, had narrowed his decision between WVU and Kentucky after crossing off UCLA due to his family being in the east, and after PITT reportedly told him no.
“Things went really well down at WVU. I enjoyed every moment of it. We toured the campus and facilities and I got a chance to hang out with other recruits and players on the team,” Shell told ESPN of his earlier visit at WVU.
“”They made my visit terrific and made me feel like family,” Shell said.
Shell would’ve been the starting running back after Ray Graham went into the NFL draft this past April. He will now join Houston running back Charles Sims and JUCO transfer Dreamius Smith as newcomers in the WVU backfield, though Shell will have to sit out the 2013 season due to NCAA rule.
WVU initially offered Shell a scholarship, but Shell chose PITT over the Mountaineers. Now, Shell will have a chance to compete for the starting spot in the WVU backfield in 2014.
