Medina, OH. – The Wheeling University Men’s Golf team was back in the course on Monday for their second to last spring Invitational of the season. All three Cardinals golfers finish at 88 strokes or better as the team continued their improvement from the MEC Men’s Golf Spring Classic. Although they did not have enough golfers to post a team score, the Cardinals continue to build a solid foundation to build on for seasons to come.
Leading the way was freshman Ethan Short, who set a new collegiate PR, shooting an 85 on the day. In each of his first three rounds of the spring season, Short has lowered his score. He began with a 95 in round one of the MEC Spring Classic and followed that with an 87. His 85 today represents his lowest score of both the fall and spring season as he continues to grow on the course. His spring single round average dropped to 89 as he looks to finish out his freshman season strong in the final spring event next week. Short was the lone freshman coming in this year’s class and looks to join Zaller and Parker as the foundation for the program as it moves forward.
The Cardinal’s lowest score on the day came from Zaller, who shot an 84, posting his second lowest score of the spring. Of his three rounds played, Zaller has shot 85 or better in two of those three runs and has a spring round average of 84.6 as he heads into the final spring event of the regular season looking for his first NCAA Regional nomination. The final Cardinal to compete on the day was Sophomore Alex Parker, who finished the afternoon shooting an 88. Parker has been a guy who has found himself during his sophomore season and finished in the 80s for the second time this spring.
The Wheeling University Men’s Golf team returns to action for their Spring Regular season finale on Saturday, April 15th, when they compete on day one of the Mercyhurst/Gannon Invitational.
