It appears that it didn’t take long for the Steelers to begin building their team for the 2011 season.
Reports indicate that the Steelers agreed to a four-year contract with free agent Ike Taylor to keep one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL in Pittsburgh.
Taylor was considered a top free agent cornerback on the market in the company of Raiders’ Nnamdi Asomugha and Jets’ Antonio Cromartie, but he had always stated that he wanted to stay in Pittsburgh.
After being drafted out of Louisiana-Lafayette in 2003 in the 4th round, Taylor has been in Pittsburgh for eight seasons, playing in every game of his NFL career with the exception of three games in 2004.
The signing of Taylor solidifies the Steelers defense at cornerback with Bryant McFadden on the other side after signing a three-year contract extension with the Steelers last season.
The next question will be if the Steelers decide to re-sign cornerback William Gay, who logged a lot of playing time last season in the nickel defense.
