Wheeling, WV-On Tuesday evening, the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced the 2011 WVIAC Softball All-Conference selections, and three Lady Cardinals were recognized.
Senior right fielder, Stacey Spicer earned WVIAC Second Team honors with a team-leading .409 batting average. Spicer started 36-of -41 games and maintained a .452 on base percentage, reaching base on 47 hits, eight walks, and one hit by pitch. The Akron, OH native dished out six doubles and a triple, collecting 11 RBI with a .478 slugging percentage.
Spicer finished her career with a 10 game hitting streak which included a 5-for-7 showing at the conference tournament.
Earning WVIAC Honorable Mention accolades were third baseman Shaynna Johnson and starting pitcher Ashley Nichols.
Johnson, plagued with an injury at the beginning of the season, started 22 games and collected 21 hits with three doubles and a homerun. She plated 10 runs and finished the season with a .304 batting average.
Nichols appeared in the center of the diamond on 32 occasions with 23 games started. She yielded a 4.24 ERA in 152 innings pitched with 14 complete games. Nichols collected a team-high 113 strikeouts, including 31 strike out victims looking which ranks 4th among the WVIAC.
