St. Clairsville’s Brett McLean has been awarded the OVATHLETICS.COM high school football Coach of the Year. Coach McLean lead the Red Devils to a perfect undefeated season. For St. Clairsville, this is the schools 5th undefeated season in school history, and the 2nd of McLean’s tenure while coaching the Red Devils.
The poll was hosted by Ohio Valley Athletics, in what was a public community vote. Owner Brian Gossett commented:
I wanted to do something different for the poll. In the Ohio Valley there are a couple different post season accolades offered by the state, conference, and local sports writers. Those awards are all fantastic – but they are typically voted on by a panel of 8 or 10 members. I wanted to do something where the winner was chosen in a community vote, giving members of the Ohio Valley a chance to be part of the selection committee.
All told, over 5,000 people turned in their vote, with McLean claiming 44% of the community vote.
McLean has a staff of 16 assistants: Bruce Stiles, Donnie Giffin, Kevin Sacco, Mac McLean, Mike Jacob, Ben Frye, Chris Patrone, Ryan Clifford, Casey Callarik, Eric Gay, Gary Hull, Vern Ridgeway, Josh Johnson, Steven Hicks, Dan Howard and Mike Barreca.
On behalf of Ohio Valley Athletics, CONGRATULATIONS to Coach McLean on being named our 2012 High School Football COACH OF THE YEAR!
