The Steelers will finally get some live enemy action as they travel to the nation’s capital to face the Washington Redskins on Friday in their first preseason game.
“We’re excited about this opportunity to take this significant step in our team development, which of course is to go inside an NFL stadium and play against unfamiliar faces and maybe even unfamiliar schemes,” said Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin.
This game should be a good opportunity for rookies to get some live action and for some of the position battles to continue and maybe shed some light as to who will emerge as standouts.
The starters will see very limited action.
“Look for our starters to play a normal number of snaps in the first preseason opportunity, 10 plays or less, somewhere around there, offensively and defensively,” said Tomlin.
Game Notes:
• The Steelers are 13-4 in the preseason over the last four seasons (2010 – 3-1, 2009 – 3-1, 2008 – 3-1, 2007 – 4-1)
• The Steelers have won four straight preseason openers
• The Redskins lead the all-time preseason series against the Steelers, 11-5-1
• The Steelers and Redskins last played in the preseason in 2009 in Washington, D.C. (Redskins 17, Steelers 13)
• The game will be televised on KDKA at 7:30pm
