The season won’t start easy for the Steelers.
Waiting for the defending AFC Champions will be the Baltimore Ravens for an AFC North battle on Sunday in Baltimore in NFL week one.
“I hate going to Baltimore, I hate playing there and I hate playing them in general just because they’re good,” said Ben Roethlisberger. “It’s not a knock on them. It’s actually giving them a lot of credit because they are such a good football team.”
The Steelers have won six of the last eight games against the Ravens including the last two straight games in this AFC North rivalry.
“It’s a huge rivalry,” said Roethlisberger. “No matter what anybody says or what the record is, when we play the Baltimore Ravens, whether it’s here or there or wherever it’s at, it’s always a fast, physical game that people love to watch.”
The Steelers beat the Ravens last season in Baltimore 13-10 with Troy Polamalu causing a late Joe Flacco fumble and Roethlisberger hitting Isaac Redman for a 9 yard touchdown to win the game.
“Whatever defense, as it has been in the past, plays better in this game, usually comes out with the win,” said Polamalu.
It appears as if the entire starting roster on defense from last season will start the season this year in Baltimore. Despite having a broken thumb, cornerback Ike Taylor looks to be ready to play on Sunday.
The only changes on offense from last season will see Jonathan Scott at left tackle, Doug Legursky at right guard and Willie Colon back from injury at right tackle.
“Two trains on a track, see you Sunday,” said Head Coach Mike Tomlin of the Steelers/Ravens game this week.
Notes: The Steelers and Troy Polamalu’s agent are talking contract extension, but only have until Sunday’s game to get it done. The Steelers have a self imposed rule to not talk contracts during the regular season.
