PITTSBURGH — It’s been a week since outfielder Jose Tabata was diagnosed with a left-hand fracture but the 23-year-old outfielder is not ready to swing the bat just yet.
“He is working his backside off,” Manager Clint Hurdle said. “But no game ready stuff like that. We’re staying away from the bat right now. He’s on an extensive workout program right now.”
Tabata started experiencing pain his left wrist after taking swings in the batting cage before the game on August 24th. Tabata was diagnosed by Dr. Mark Baratz with a small avulsion fracture in the dorsal side of the 4th metacarpal of his left hand (fractured left hand) on September 6th.
Since being reinstated off the disabled list (left quad strain), Tabata is hitting .273 with a homer in those 20 games.
