Though football season is still several months away, the Ohio Valley has seen several players make the most of their off season by attending development camps and combines.
Linsly’s Mark Dodd, and Steubenville’s William Houst & Najee Murray are the latest to make an off season impression, as all 3 recieved mention on ESPN for being named to the Nike “All Combine Team” at the latest Pittsburgh Combine.
Over 800 athletes attended the combine, with only 25 making the “All Combine Team”. Dodd, Murray, and Houst all made the Defensive Team.
The ESPN article mentioned Dodd;
LB: Mark Dodd, 6-1, 214, The Linsly School (Wheeling, WV.)
Results: 4.69 40, 4.44 SH, 37-0 PB, 30.3 VJ, 92.16 SPARQ
Breakdown: Collected 98 tackles, including 22 for loss, two sacks, and two interceptions as a junior.
Highlighting Murray;
DB: Najee Murray, 5-9, 169, Steubenville (Steubenville, Ohio)
Results: 4.69 40, 4.53 SH, 37-0 PB, 31.2 VJ, 81.69 SPARQ
Breakdown: Multi-purpose player who also lines up under center — Akron, Bowling Green, Miami-Ohio, and Toledo have extended offers.
And mentioning Houst;
DL: William Houst, 6-2, 222, Steubenville (Steubenville.)
Results: 4.94 40, 4.78 SH, 36-0 PB, 28.1 VJ, 71.67 SPARQ
Breakdown: Suffered an ankle injury in the second half of his junior year, but still managed to make the honorable mention all-eastern district list.
