SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The West Liberty University men’s and women’s track teams posted several personal bests and Mountain East Conference season highs during Saturday’s Dave Labor Invitational, hosted by Slippery Rock University.
Nate Taylor finished third in the 100-meter sprint with an MEC season-best time of 10.64 – just .03 seconds off an NCAA provisional qualifying time – and was seventh in a hotly-competitive 200-meter dash, becoming the first MEC sprinter under 22 seconds this spring at 21.93.
West Liberty’s 4×100 relay squad finished third but set an MEC season best with a brisk 42.70 clocking. The Hilltoppers won the 4×400 relay event in 3:25.74, missing an MEC season best by mere hundredths of a second.
There was good news in the field events, as well, with Aaron Schneid finishing third in the hammer throw with a heave of 163 feet, 4.5 inches (49.80m), tops in the MEC this spring. Cameron Benson was fourth in the javelin with a personal best – and MEC season-high – effort of 184 feet, 2.5 inches (56.15m).
On the women’s side, All-Region standout Alexis Montes finished third in a strong field with a throw of 147 feet, 2.5 inches (44.87m), less than a meter shy of her MEC best toss of 149 feet, 10.75 inches earlier this month.
