PRINCETON, W.Va. – Coming off its first sub-.500 season in six years, the West Liberty University football team slotted in at No. 7 in the annual preseason poll of West Virginia Conference coaches.
Shepherd edged out defending champion Concord for the top spot with the Rams receiving six first-place votes while the Mountain Lions collected the remaining three.
West Virginia Wesleyan, Charleston and Fairmont State rounded out the top five, followed by Glenville State, the Hilltoppers, Seton Hill and West Virginia State.
West Liberty kicks off the 2012 season at home on Saturday, Sept. 1 when the Hilltoppers host perennial South Atlantic Conference power Catawba (N.C.).
Kickoff time is set for 1 p.m. at Russek Field.
