EDMOND, Okla. – The West Liberty University wrestling team once again checks in at No. 14 in the most recent NCAA Division II Top 20 rankings compiled by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
Coach Brian Davis’s Hilltoppers were also ranked No. 14 in the previous NWCA balloting, which came out on Jan. 11. West Liberty heavyweight JD Ramsey, a two-time national tournament qualifier, is ranked No. 7 in the nation at 285 pounds. St. Cloud State (Minn.) and defending Super Region One champion Newberry (S.C.) remain head and shoulders above the rest of the field. St. Cloud State was a unanimous pick at No. 1 with Newberry receiving all eight second-place votes from the NWCA ranking committee. Upper Iowa and Augustana (S.D.) were tied for the No. 3 spot with Nebraska-Kearney rounding out the top five.
The Hilltoppers are one of four Super Region One teams ranked in this week’s poll. Joining the Black and Gold are No. 2 Newberry, No. 8 Pitt-Johnstown and No. 10 Mercyhurst (Pa.). Kutztown (Pa.) also received votes but fell short of cracking the Top 20.
