Wheeling, W. Va. – After recruiting and scouting players for the last three months since the season ended, the time had finally come on Wednesday to introduce the next class of Wheeling University Football Players to Cardinals Nation on National Signing Day. Head Coach Zac Bruney and his staff worked to bring in over 50 new recruits in this year’s class from eight states and Washington, DC, as they look to build on the legacy of Wheeling University Football.
The 2022 season was the best year in program history, as the team went 7-4 overall and 6-4 in the highly competitive Mountain East Conference (MEC). Under Bruney’s leadership, the program has continued to get better each season, setting new program win records each season. In turn, the team is gaining more regional and national recognition and were in the hunt for the regional playoffs up until the final three weeks of the season. When the season came to an end, the Cardinals had nine players recognized as All-MEC honorees, with eight of those nine earning either a first or second team designation. The program has also allowed it’s players to continue pursuing football after college with several seniors participating in bowl games this season and having their first ever alumni sign a professional football contract when former Defensive Back Aaron Finch signed with the National Arena League’s (NAL) Jacksonville Sharks.
A complete list of today’s signees and their positions are below. Bruney and his staff are excited to bring these players in and many more before the team hits camp in August as they kick-off the 2023 Football season.
