PRINCETON, WV. – Four WVIAC men’s basketball programs earned their way to compete in the 2012 Division II NCAA Tournament.
West Liberty, Charleston, West Virginia Wesleyan and Wheeling Jesuit all earned spots in the Atlantic Region.
WVIAC regular season and tournament champion West Liberty, the No. 4 team in the nation, earned the right to host the Atlantic Region. The Hilltoppers, the region’s No. 1 seed, are currently 29-2 on the season and finished 21-1 in WVIAC play. The squad is coming off a 93-90 overtime victory against Charleston in the WVIAC Tournament Championship. WLU will square off against No. 8 East Stroudsburg in the first round. A season ago, the Hilltoppers hosted the Atlantic Region and advanced to the NCAA Final Four.
The Golden Eagles earned the No. 3 seed. UC is currently 26-6 on the season and was the runner-up in the WVIAC regular season and in the league tournament. The Golden Eagles finished the season with an 18-4 mark in WVIAC action. UC will face WVIAC foe Wheeling Jesuit in the first round.
The Cardinals are 21-9 on the season and posted a 16-6 mark against WVIAC competition during the regular season. WJU earned the No. 6 seed in the tournament. The Cardinals reeled off five wins in their last six outings prior to the NCAA Tournament.
WV Wesleyan earned its second consecutive postseason bid. The Bobcats garnered the No. 4 seed in the Atlantic Region. WVWC completed the WVIAC regular season with a 15-7 mark in league play and is currently 21-8 on the year. The Bobcats will face Winston-Salem State in their first-round game.
First round games will take place at West Liberty on March 10.
