On Saturday at Edison High School Wheeling Park defeated University by a score of 5-4 to claim the OVAC 5A title. The game was tied at 2 after the regulation 7 innings of play, meaning bonus baseball. When you speak of bonus baseball in an OVAC tournament it’s never a bad thing.
The extra inning, the 8th, saw University jump out quick with a few hits. Both Cory Thomas and Noah Braham were aboard as base runners when a shot screamed down the 3rd base line driving them home, to give University a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the 8th.
That’s when Park’s Jared Marsh managed to score off of a Nathan Bittinger groundout to pull Park within 1 run, 4-3.
Park’s Gia Degenova managed to draw a walk and later Park’s Ryan Conrad reach base a swell.
This is when Park’s Nate Simon grounded out to first but manage to get an RBI, tying the game at 4.
Senior leader Quinn Jameson for the Patriot’s turn out to be the decider in this one when his infield single drove in the go ahead run to give the Patriots a 5-4 decision over a very skilled University squad and hand Park the 5A crown for the OVAC Baseball tournament.
