Wheeling, WV, April 9, 2008—The Wheeling Jesuit softball team (9-22, 3-9 WVIAC) dropped a doubleheader to the University of Charleston (16-16, 4-3 WVIAC), Saturday evening by scores of 9-0 and 5-3, respectively, at WJU’s LaRosa Field.
In game one, Charleston was leading 4-0 after three innings of play and continued to build, scoring one run in the fifth and four runs in the in the seventh to claim the opener.
Wheeling Jesuit was limited to just four hits as Jarah Ice led the way with with a 2-for3 effort while Skylar Berger and Caity Ferrell weach had a 1-for 3 showing.
In the nightcap, the Lady Cardinals held the lead for the first five innings, scoring one run in the first inning and added two in the fourth. Cassandra Nutter (3-for-3) and Stacy Spicer (3-for-4) each pounded out three hits Samantha Macioce, Oliva Wamsley and Ice chipped in one apiece.
In the sixth inning, Charleston surged for two runs, tying the game at 3-3 and grabbed the lead in the top of the seventh with two more, 5-3. Wheeling Jesuit scattered three hits in the bottom half of the inning, only manage to plate on run.
Wheeling Jesuit will host Fairmont State University on Sunday, April 10th at WJU’s LaRosa Field. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
