Here is a breakdown of how the Pirates players and prospects played in winter ball from 11/16- 11/24:
Mexican League
Vedados de Mazatlan
- Outfielder Rogelio Noris appeared in two games this week where he went 1-for-5 with two strikeouts. Noris is batting .188 with three runs, two doubles, one home run, six RBI and two stolen bases over 16 games with Mazatlan.
Venezuelan League
Aguilas del Zulia
- Right-hander Diego Moreno appeared in three games this week with Zulia. Moreno tossed a combined 5.1 perfect innings of relief with five strikeouts. Over 9.2 innings in relief, Moreno has allowed three runs on five hits with three walks and 11 strikeouts.
- Right-hander Julio Vivas is on the roster for Aguilas but has not yet made an appearance.
Caribes de Anzoátegui
- Right-hander Gabriel Alvarado has not yet made an appearance for Anzoátegui.
- Outfielder Gorkys Hernandez played in seven games this week for Caribes. He went 4-for-19 (.210 avg) with three runs, two doubles, a triple, two RBI, four walks and two stolen bases. In 34 games overall, Hernandez is batting .241
- Outfielder Jose Tabata is on the roster for Anzoátegui but has not played in a game yet.
Bravos de Margarita
- Right-hander Anthony Claggett has not made an appearance for the Bravos since November 6. In four starts (five appearances), Claggett is 0-2 with a 6.64 ERA (20.1 innings) with nine walks and eight strikeouts.
- Left-hander Jhonathan Ramos made two appearances this week. On the 16th, Ramos pitched a perfect inning of relief with a strikeout. On Tuesday, Ramos allowed two runs on a hit and two walks over 0.2 innings. It marked the first runs that Ramos has allowed while pitching with the Bravos. In six games with the Bravos he’s allowed four hits, two runs, over 4.0 innings with two walks and two strikeouts.
Leones del Caracas
- Right-hander Jose Ascanio made two appearances this week where he tossed 3.0 innings of relief with out hit and three strikeouts. Ascanio has not allowed a run over his last four outings (5.0 innings). In seven games overall, Ascanio has allowed three runs on six hits over 12.1 innings with two walks and 11 strikeouts.
- Catcher Ramon Cabrera played in five games this week where he went 2-for-13 (.154 avg) with three runs, a triple, two RBI and a walk. Cabrera is batting .188 over 20 games with the Leones.
- Outfielder Corey Wimberly made his winter ball debut on the 18th. Wimberly played in six games this week where he went 6-for-26 (.231 avg) with two runs, a double, two RBI and a stolen base.
Navegantes de Magallanes
- Outfielder Jose Osuna is on the roster for the Navegantes but has not yet appeared in a game.
Tiburones de La Guaira
- Right-hander Shairon Martis signed a minor league contract with the Pirates on Wednesday. Martis started in one game this week for the Tiburones. He allowed two runs (unearned) on four hits over 5.0 innings with one walk and five strikeouts. Martis is 1-1 with a 1.89 ERA over four games (19.0 innings) with 10 walks and 14 strikeouts.
Dominican League
Toros Del Este
- Right-hander Chris Leroux did not make any starts this week for the Toros. In five starts overall, Leroux is 1-2 with a 1.14 ERA (23.2 innings) with five walks and 21 strikeouts. Leroux will make one more start before his winter ball season ends.
- Left-hander Aaron Thompson has not made an appearance since November 9. In two starts (four appearances) this season, Thompson is 0-1 with a 6.10 ERA (9.1 innings) with four walks and three strikeouts.
- Right-hander Tim Wood made his final winter ball appearance on the 17 for the Toros. He allowed one run (unearned) on a walk and a strikeout over 1.0 inning of relief. In 11 appearances this season, Wood has allowed 11 runs (nine earned) on 14 hits over 10.2 innings with five walks and nine strikeouts.
- Infielder Pedro Ciriaco played in six games this week for the Toros. Ciriaco went 5-for-22 (.227) with one run and seven strikeouts. Over 11 games this season, Ciriaco is batting .233 with four runs and 10 strikeouts.
- Shortstop Chase d’Arnaud‘s season with the Toros ended early after suffering a hand injury. In three games, d’Arnaud went 0-for-10 with three strikeouts.
- First baseman Matt Hague played in seven games this week. Hague went 5-for-20 (.250 avg) with one run, a double, RBI and eight walks. In 29 games overall, Hague is batting .288 with two home runs and 15 RBI.
- Third Baseman Andy Vasquez hasn’t played in a game for the Toros since November 4. Vasquez has played in five games with the Toros, three at-bat where he is hitless.
- Right-hander Jose Diaz signed a minor league contract with Pittsburgh on Wednesday. Diaz made four appearances this week for the Toros where he tossed 3.2 hitless innings of relief with one walk and six strikeouts. Over 14.1 innings this season, Diaz has allowed no runs, one hit with five walks and 12 strikeouts.
Leones del Escogido
- Infielder Andy Marte played in one game this week where he went 0-for-3 at the plate. Marte is batting .222 with two doubles and two RBI over 16 games for Leones.
- Outfielder Starling Marte has not played since November 1st and is sidelined with a groin injury. In 13 games Marte is batting .340 with eight runs, three doubles, one homer, five RBI and five stolen bases.
Estrellas de Oriente
- Catcher Jake Fox signed a minor league contract with the Pirates on Wednesday. Fox played in five games this week where he went 2-for-21 (.095 avg) with one run, two RBI and a walk. Overall this season, Fox is batting .196 with six runs, four doubles and four RBI in 13 games.
Panama
- Outfielder Andrew Lambo is playing winter ball in Panama with the Diablicos de Azuero. Lambo has a .301 average in 26 games with seven doubles, two home runs, 23 RBI and nine walks.
Puerto Rico
Criollos de Caguas
- Right-hander Nelson Figuero is on the roster for Criollos but has not yet made an appearance.
Leones de Ponce
- Infielder Benji Gonzalez appeared in four games this week for Leones. Gonzalez went 2-for-8 (.250 avg) with a run. Over seven games overall, Gonzalez is batting .273.
Indios de Mayaguez
- Infielder Jeremy Farrell played in seven games this week for Indios where he’s gone 2-for-22 (.091 avg) with a doubles, RBI and a walk. Farrell is batting .192 over 15 games.
- Infielder Greg Picart is on the roster for Indios but has not yet played in a game.
- Outfielder Adalberto Santos is on the roster for Indios but has not yet played in a game.
Australian League
Adelaide Bite
- Left-hander Rinku Singh is on the roster for Adelaide but has not yet made an appearance.
- Right-hander Ryan Beckman made his winter ball debut with Adelaide last week, but did not appear in any games this week. Overall, Beckman has allowed one run on two hits over 3.0 innings with one walk and three strikeouts.
- Outfielder Calvin Anderson played in one games this week where he went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer and a walk. Over eight games this season, Anderson is batting .167 with two homers and seven RBI.
- Infielder Stefan Welch is on the roster for Adelaide but has not yet made an appearance.
Canberra Cavalry
- Catcher Travis Scott has played in one game for Canberra where he went 0-for-3 with a walk. Over eight games, Scott is batting .200 with four runs, three doubles and four RBI.
