Both the Australian League and the Puerto Rican League started this week. Here is a breakdown of how the Pirates players and prospects played this week from 10/31-11/7:
Venezuelan League
Aguilas del Zulia
- Right-hander Diego Moreno didn‘t make an appearance this week with Zulia. In his last outing on Sunday, the 23rd, Moreno allowed three runs on one hit with two walk and one strikeout over 0.1 inning. Over 4.1 innings in relief, Moreno has allowed three runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
- Right-hander Julio Vivas is on the roster for Aguilas but has not yet made an appearance.
Tigers de Aragua
- Shortstop Ronny Cedeno is on the roster for Aragua, but has not yet played in a game yet this season.
Caribes de Anzoátegui
- Right-hander Gabriel Alvarado has not yet made an appearance for Anzoátegui.
- Outfielder Gorkys Hernandez played in five games this week for Caribes. He went 2-for-7 (.285 avg) with a walk and one stolen base. In 21 games overall, Hernandez is batting .213 with eight runs, four doubles and two RBI.
- Outfielder Jose Tabata is on the roster for Anzoátegui but has not played in a game yet.
Bravos de Margarita
- Right-hander Anthony Claggett made one appearance this week, where he fared much better than last week. On Sunday, Claggett allowed one runs on two hits over 2.1 innings of relief with one walk and two strikeouts. The lone run came from a solo-home run. However, the long ball has hurt him this season. Claggett has allowed five home runs in five games.
In four starts (five appearances), Claggett is 0-2 with a 6.64 ERA (20.1 innings) with nine walks and eight strikeouts.
- Left-hander Jhonathan Ramos made one appearance this week where tossed a scoreless inning of relief with two hits and a strikeout. In four games with the Bravos he’s allowed three hits, no runs, over 2.1 innings with two walks and two strikeouts.
Dominican League
Toros Del Este
- Right-hander Chris Leroux has made one start this week where he picked up the tough loss. Leroux allowed two runs on four hits over 5.2 innings with one walk and five strikeouts. The first run scored in the 1st inning. Leroux allowed a leadoff infield single to Eury Perez, who advanced to second on a fielders choice then third base on a wild pitch. Perez scored on a RBI single by the San Francisco Giants Brandon Belt. Leroux struck out the side in the 3rd and held Escogido to just one hit over the next four innings. Leroux allowed his second run in the 6th after issuing a walk, then a two-out RBI double.
In four starts overall, Leroux is 1-1 with a 1.31 ERA (20.2 innings) with four walks and 18 strikeouts.
- Left-hander Aaron Thompson has made one appearance with the Toros this week where he allowed four runs on four hits over 2.0 innings with one walk and one strikeout. All four runs came in the 4th inning, his first inning of relief. Thompson allowed four hits in the frame –three of them for extra-bases. Thompson tossed a perfect 5th inning.
In two starts (three appearances), Thompson is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA (9.1 innings).
- Right-hander Tim Wood made two appearances from the ‘pen for the Toros this week. On Saturday, Wood tossed a scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts. On Monday, Wood allowed three runs on two hits and two walks over 1.0 inning.
In eight appearances this season, Wood has allowed seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits over 8.1 innings with three walks and eight strikeouts.
- Shortstop Chase d’Arnaud is still on the Toros roster, but has not played due to a hand injury. d’Arnaud is currently not in the Dominican but could return to finish out the season. In three games, d’Arnaud went 0-for-10 with three strikeouts.
- First baseman Matt Hague played in five games this week. Hague went 7-for-20 (.350 avg) with three runs, three RBI, and one walk. In 17 games overall, Hague is batting .333 with two home runs and 10 RBI.
- Third Baseman Andy Vasquez played in one game this week where he went 0-for-2. Vasquez has played in five games with the Toros, three at-bat where he is hitless.
Leones del Escogido
- Infielder Andy Marte appeared in four games this week where he went 0-for-4 with two walks. Marte has a .273 avg in 13 games with Leones.
- Outfielder Starling Marte started in one game this week. On Tuesday, Marte was removed from the game after the bottom of the 1st inning. He has not played since and is sidelined with a groin injury. In 13 games Marte is batting .340 with eight runs, three doubles, one homer, five RBI and five stolen bases.
Panama
- Outfielder Andrew Lambo is playing winter ball in Panama with the Diablicos de Azuero. Lambo has a .309 average in 13 games with two doubles, two home runs, four RBI and four walks. Lambo’s two homers came on back-to-back games. On Sunday, his two-run shot gave the Azuero the walk-off win the 11th inning.
Puerto Rico
The Puerto Rican League kicked off on Friday, November 4th and five Pirates players are playing for three different teams.
Criollos de Caguas
- Right-hander Nelson Figuero is on the roster for Criollos but has not yet made an appearance.
Leones de Ponce
- Infielder Benji Gonzalez has played in two games for Leones where he’s gone 1-for-3.
Indios de Mayaguez
- Infielder Jeremy Farrell has played in three games where he’s gone 2-for-10 (.200 avg) with two RBI.
- Infielder Greg Picart is on the roster for Indios but has not yet played in a game.
- Outfielder Adalberto Santos is on the roster for Indios but has not yet played in a game.
Australian League
The Australian League kicked off on November 4th and five players are playing for three different teams.
Adelaide Bite
- Left-hander Rinku Singh is on the roster for Adelaide but has not yet made an appearance.
- Right-hander Ryan Beckman is on the roster for Adelaide but has not yet made an appearance.
- Outfielder Calvin Anderson had played in three games for Adelaide where he’s gone 1-for-10 (.100 avg) with a run and a stolen base.
Brisbane Bandits
- Outfielder Xavier Paul is on the roster for Brisbane but has not yet made an appearance.
Canberra Cavalry
- Catcher Travis Scott has played in three games for Canberra where he’s gone 4-for-11 (.364 avg) with a run, double and three RBI.
