PRINCETON WV – West Liberty University sophomore guard Cedric Harris has earned his second West Virginia Conference Player of the Week honor of the season.
Harris averaged a double-double in leading the No. 4-ranked Hilltoppers to a pair of impressive victories last week.
A 6-0 native of Zanesville, Ohio, Harris scored 14 points, handed out a season-high 11 assists and grabbed 7 rebounds in a 101-91 victory against upset-minded Fairmont State on Wednesday.
Harris followed that up with 15 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds in just 22 minutes of playing time on Saturday as West Liberty set a season-high for points in a 139-74 rout of Bluefield State. Harris, who shared this week’s Player of the Week honor with Alderson-Broaddus’s Kurklin Bohanon, ranks among the WVIAC and NCAA leaders in assists at 5.6 per game.
His performances helped the two-time defending WVIAC champions extend their league-record conference winning streak to 49 games and pushed the Hilltoppers’ season scoring average back above the century mark to 100.6 ppg.
West Liberty leads the nation in scoring and ranks among the Top 10 nationally in five other statistical categories.
Harris’s second WVIAC Player of the Week honor marks the fifth time this year that a Hilltopper standout has been honored as Player of the Week. He joins junior Alex Falk as a two-time winner with junior Tim Hausfeld also having been a Player of the Week selection.
West Liberty returns to action Tuesday night when the Hilltoppers host Seton Hill in a 7:30 p.m. game at the ASRC.
