INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The unbeaten and No. 1-ranked West Liberty University men’s basketball team remained well in front of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region pack on Wednesday when the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Ranking Committee released its weekly set of regional rankings.
Coach Jim Crutchfield’s Hilltoppers (21-0) added a couple more double-digit wins to its resume last week and remains the only team in the region with fewer than three losses against NCAA Division II competition.
Bowie State (Md.) remained No. 2 while No. 3 Winston-Salem State (N.C.) swapped places with No. 4 Mercyhurst (Pa.).
The biggest movers of the week followed with West Virginia State jumping from No. 8 to No. 5 while defending regional champon Indiana (Pa.) vaulted from No. 10 all the way to No. 6.
Fairmont State, Alderson-Broaddus, Mansfield (Pa.) and Livingstone (N.C.) round out the top 10.
West Liberty – which leads the nation in 10 statistical categories – will be trying to stretch its season-opening winning streak to a school-record-tying 22 games on Thursday when the Hilltoppers host Pitt-Johnstown. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at the ASRC.
The regional rankings will be released each Wednesday through March 2. The top 8 teams in the final set of regional rankings earn bids to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional tournament.
