Ben Roethlisberger has been wishing for a big wide receiver target to throw to (who isn’t named Limas Sweed) for years now. Will he finally get his wish?
The Steelers are interested in at least talking to former Steeler and Giant Plaxico Burress as Mike Tomlin apparently will meet with Burress to discuss if he would be a good fit back in the Steelers offense.
Rumors have it that the Steelers and the Giants are on the short list to sign Burress.
The 6’5” wide receiver was just recently released from prison after spending 20 months behind bars for illegally possessing a gun in a Manhattan night club with which he accidentally shot himself with in that same club.
So the question is, “Would Burress be a good fit back in Pittsburgh?”.
Given the fact that the Steelers have had a long list of troubled players as of late and none of those off-field troubles carried over onto the field and locker room as evident with the Steelers getting to the Super Bowl last season, signing Burress most likely would not affect the chemistry of the team.
With Hines Ward entering his 14th season in a Steelers uniform and with a list of young, fast receivers in Pittsburgh, Burress would be an ideal fit to complement Mike Wallace and Ward, given his size.
Burress and Roethlisberger only played together for one season, which was Roethlisberger’s rookie season in 2004. In that season, Burress played in 11 regular season games, catching only 35 balls for 698 yards (19.9 yards per catch) and five touchdowns.
